Scientific Sessions:

NAtional superintendent Roundtable discussion

American Heart Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people everywhere. During their 2019 Scientific Sessions, superintendents from across the nation convened with medical and community health experts to address the youth vaping crisis and discuss future initiatives to combat the epidemic. Twofold Fusion was called in to help create an informational and moving PSA from the roundtable discussion to advance the AHA’s efforts in combating youth e-cigarette use.

Due to the nature of the event, we utilized three roaming cameras to ensure we captured as much as possible. This gave us more footage to work with in post, including reaction shots we normally would have missed with a one-camera set up. In addition, because the meeting was not scripted, we had everyone participating wear a mic and a dedicated technician live mix all 12 different mic feeds. Upon arrival, we realized the assigned room was too small to accommodate the roundtable attendees, let alone an additional roaming camera crew. Together, AHA and TFF worked to secure an alternative space that was perfect for filming, yet not cost prohibitive to the overall event budget.

After the meeting wrapped, we provided our clients a transcription of the 4-hour discussion, allowing us to collaborate efficiently and pinpoint exact soundbites crucial to their message. In order to further engage viewers, we decided to take a documentary-style approach, giving the video a more personal and authentic feel. Our approach was cinema-verité in nature, yet commercial grade cinema-like in delivery. By using close-ups and reaction shots, we were able capture the seriousness in the room as they discussed the impact vaping had on students as well as highlight everyone’s dedication toward fostering a solution. As a result, we were able to bring the viewer into the room and encourage the audience to continue the conversation.
